Hamburger Chef Jamie Oliver Proves McDonald’s Burgers “Unfit For Human Consumption
The popular chef Jamie Oliver won a victory against the biggest fast food chains on the planet McDonalds, after providing a relevant proof that their hamburgers contain numerous unhealthy ingredients.Due to this, the fast food chain decided to announce that they will alter the recipe. Yet, not a single mainstream medium reported this publicly.
Oliver attempted to spread the word and to explain to the public, over several years in different interviews, documentaries and television shows that the fatty parts of the beef are actually “washed” in ammonium hydroxide and used in the filling of the burger.
The presenter stated that this makes them unfit for human consumption. Oliver states that: “Basically, we’re taking a product that would be sold in the cheapest way for dogs, and after this process, is being given to human beings.”
Despite the low quality of the meat, the ammonium hydroxide is extremely dangerous chemical and detrimental for our overall health. Oliver named this process as “the pink slime process”. He also asked why would any sensible human being put this type of meat in the mouths of their children? In one of his numerous demonstrations, Oliver showed the process of production of nuggets, in which the remains of the chicken are processed and fried, while the best parts are removed. After all the bad press on this process by Oliver, the company Arcos Dorados, the franchise manager for McDonalds in Latin America, claimed that this type of procedure is not practiced in their region, which also applies to the products in UK and Ireland, where they use meat from the local suppliers.
The use of ammonia in the products has been abandoned in the United States, by Burger King and Taco Bell. In the food industry, this dangerous chemical is used as an anti-microbial agent in meats, creating an opportunity for McDonald’s to use otherwise “inedible meat.”
However, the worst part is that due to the fact that USDA considers ammonium hydroxide as the “component in a production procedure”, consumers still can’t know when the chemical is being used in their food.
The company, on their official website, commented that their meat is sold cheaply since they purchase it at a lower price, and they still offer the best quality products.
The question know is why they don’t offer better quality in Latin America and Europe? Or Why they can do better now in the United States, apparently?
Unfortunately, the questions still remain unanswered by the franchise which has also denied that the decision to change the recipe is related to Jami Oliver’s campaign. McDonald’s has addmited on their site that they have abandoned the beef filler from its burger patties.
