You already know that lice are those small insects which live in human hair and feed on blood. Even though they are harmless, they are still verry annoying and contagious. They release silva when they bite and as a result it causes itching. Make sure not to scratch since wounds will open, thus leading to bacterial infection. Check your child immediately if you notice he or she is itching its head. In order to get rid of them, use homemade remedies like the following ones:

Olive oil – it is extremely effective since it suffocates them and kills them right away. Firs of all, comb the hair to remove the eggs, massage the oil on the scalp and then put a shower cap over your hair. Allow the oil to steep into the hair and scalp during the night.

Hair dryer –Use the hairdryer as it will help you kill 55% of the lice and even 98% of the eggs. All you have to do is to blow your hair from the scalp going through the ends, but make sure to hold it on small sections of the hair for one minute.

Hot coconut oil – protects against secondary infections as it contains lauric acid that has anti-microbial properties. The lice suffocate due to the fatty acids. Just heat some coconut oil and massage it with your fingers on the scalp. Allow it to act for half an hour and then remove the eggs with a comb.

Salt and vinegar – this mixture helps to dehydrate and kill the lice. All you have to do is to pour ¼ cup of salt and ¼ cup of warm water into a spray bottle. After that, apply the solution on the scalp and allow it to stand until the hair is completely dry. In the end, coat the hair and head with olive or coconut oil and let it stay overnight or at least for 8 hours.

Onion – onion is effective natural remedy against lice as it kills them due to its sulphuric compound. First of all blend the onion to prepare a paste, then put it into a sieve, extracting the juice. Use this liquid to massage your scalp and cover it with a shower cap for 2 hours. After that, rinse it off and use a shampoo. In the end, dry your hair. Repeat this treatment for 3 days, and then once a month for the following 2 months.

Coconut oil and apple cider vinegar –first of all, use ACV to wash the hair, allow it to dry and then coat the scalp with coconut oil without washing off the ACV. Next, apply a shower cap and let it stand for at least 8 hours. Repeat this treatment once a week for a period of three weeks.

Tea tree oil –take 2 tsp of regular shampoo and add 20 drops of tea tree oil in it. Use this solution to wash your hair.

Mayonnaise – use mayonnaise to coat your child’s hair and massage it into the scalp. After that, use a cap to cover the head and let it stay during the night. The next morning, rinse it off with a mild shampoo and remove the left-over eggs with a shampoo.
