This can happen to anyone, and everyone hates them. This can be mild or severe and be all over the head especially on one side. Whatever it is, it is a horror. Even simple tasks are impossible in this state.

What you do not see is that many types of headaches exist and the causes are different. Like with other body parts, you learn this habit and know better each time to make them hurt less and also know to avoid them, starting from diets to habits.

There are several types. The common are migraine, tension, cluster. This can be due to illness or injury or some problem inside the body. Also they can be from emotion tension, stress, overextension, diet issues too. To add, there are primary and secondary. The primary are annoying and hurt, but are not harmful. Secondary are those from another cause and MIGHT be dangerous.

If you have headaches all the time, talk to a doctor about treating options. And read more to see what headaches mean.

TYPE 1: ALLERGY

Allergies are a big source for headaches, especially since this blocks sinuses and makes head pressure. These headaches go with watery, itchy eyes and the pain is on whole head and face. If you have seasonal allergy, you must have had these. Curing means antihistamines and cortisone meds, prescribed by doctors.

TYPE 2: SINUS

The sinus infections can make pressure as the infection itself. This is felt in the forehead, near the eyes and cheeks too. It can get worse with time. This is cured with antibiotics and nasal decongestants. If you have these more often, talk with a doctor and see if you don’t have deviated septum.

TYPE 3: ANXIETY

If you have stress, the pain will be near the forehead and headband line. This appears in stress periods and anxiety too like too much work and emotional times. Stress management is the vital part here. Meditate, breathe and get enough sleep.

TYPE 4: CLUSTER

These are really painful and around the eye. It makes the eye watery and congests the nose. Also there is face flushing too.  This is seen more in men than women and in attacks too. The cause is not known, but it might be genes, smoking, alcohol and more. Meds resolve these.

TYPE 5: CAFFEINE WITHDRAWAL

If you are coffee addict, you will see the head hurts more after being without coffee. This is abstinence sign, after all caffeine is a drug. These headaches throb since blood vessels constricted with caffeine are now dilated without it. In serious cases, you have to quit all caffeine drinks.

TYPE 6: MIGRAINE

These run in families, so if your family had them, you will have them too. Pain is felt on one side of a head and might be moderate or severe. It lasts from 4 to 72 hours and can be non stop too. Some even experience vomiting, nausea, light sensitivity and sound one too. Some even see an aura before the migraine starts. These get cured with meds and biofeedback.

TYPE 7: TENSION

These headaches are the most common and felt in temples, head back side, down the neck too. They are mild or severe and can be helped by aspirin or painkillers. They are caused by strain in muscles and connection tissues in the scalp and neck. The cause might be both physical or emotional. One treatment too is rest or stress management.

TYPE 8: TEMPOROMANDIBULAR JOINT (TMJ)

This pain comes from muscle contractions in the jaw and temple and also with pain clicking in the temple if you move the jaw. This means the jaw is not aligned and makes a strain. Treating includes relaxation of muscles and correction of the bite.

TYPE 9: DIGESTION ISSUES

A headache that is at the same time with belly pain is caused by food. Hunger also makes headaches, and sometimes it is lack of food. Other times is by food allergy and sensitivity and additives too. Too much alcohol also makes this, and is felt across forehead, eyes and temples. If you get them all the time, change the diet and get a nutrition expert. Also, no more alcohol.

TYPE 10: GIANT CELL ARTERITIS

These are due to inflammation of artery lining and is found in head arteries, around the temples. It makes tender scalp, jaw pain and vision issues. With no treatment, it makes vision loss and stroke risks. This requires meds and doctor appointments.
